Connie’s far-reaching, exponentially increasing ability to nurture promising scholars and early-career professors at SoHE is just one area that made her a stand-out candidates for this award. Connie has lead SoHE’s transformative “train the trainer” approach in order to foster a true culture of mentorship. The widespread effect of her leadership has impacted many individuals including graduate students, and the SoHE community as a whole.

Connie joined the UW-Madison and SoHE community in 2010. Since then, she has achieved numerous accomplishments. She began her role as associate dean in 2014, one year after publishing the book Teenage Citizens: The political theories of the young, which won the Best Authored Book award from the Society for Research on Adolescence. She has also been honored with a Fulbright research award, a resident fellowship from the Spencer Foundation, and distinguished research awards from the American Orthopsychiatric Association and Tufts University.

As a colleague noted, “Connie has been instrumental in my development as a junior faculty member, and were it not for her support, I would not be so well-positioned to succeed.”
