Lynn Kraemer Mecklenburg

Lynn Mecklenburg (BA 1969 Journalism; MS 1975 Family & Consumer Journalism) considers her 100 Women gift as “a tribute to the many women who have been inspirational to me. Each of them has traveled a different path in life, but all of them are linked by commitments to their families and volunteerism.” First enrolling in Home Economics as a freshman she later transferred to the School of Journalism and Mass Communication for her degree. When considering graduate school, she returned to Human Ecology. In her first job at University Hospitals, Lynn met Gary Mecklenburg, a hospital administrator. They married and had two children. Lynn’s career included work in communications at the Wisconsin Union Theater, as well as in the arts program at Stanford University and for the Artist Series at the Pabst Theater in Milwaukee. Thanks to courses in Related Art, Lynn developed an awareness of the art in her surroundings. She became an avid hand quilter and a gardener. “When I quilt, I feel connected with generations of women who spent their time alone and with others creating beautiful and functional pieces of art.” Lynn served for nine years on SoHE’s Board of Visitors, two years as Chair. She and Gary have demonstrated remarkable generosity to many areas within SoHE, including the Helen Louise Allen Textile Collection.
