Funding Opportunities for the week of August 28 – September 3, 2020

Last Call! The VCRGE Fall Research Competition deadline is September 11, 2020. Apply online here.

The VCRGE Pandemic-Affected Research Continuation Initiative to will support projects impacted by COVID-19 for which expenditures were compelled to continue although certain research activities were stalled, such that the project now faces a shortage of funds to complete those activities. Support for loss of critical and time-sensitive research supplies and resources due to reduction of on-site research activities will also be considered. Awards of up to $50,000 will be considered. The Caplan Foundation for Early Childhood supports development projects and promising research with potential to significantly enhance the physical and mental health, safety, nutrition, play, social integration, and/or quality of life of children, from infancy through seven years of age. The Caplan Foundation is currently inviting Letters of Intent in the following categories: Early Childhood Welfare, Early Childhood Education and Play, and Parenting Education. LOI are due September 30, 2020.

The Russell Sage Foundation (RSF), in partnership with the Economic Mobility and Opportunity program at the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation (BMGF), seeks to advance innovative research on economic mobility and access to opportunity in the United States. RSF is particularly interested in research focused on diagnosing and addressing structural barriers to economic mobility in this country. This initiative is designed to support early- and mid-career tenure-track scholars, and to promote diversity by prioritizing applications from scholars who are underrepresented in the social sciences. This includes racial, ethnic, gender, disciplinary, institutional, and geographic diversity. Only tenure track assistant professors (awards up to $30,000/12 months), and associate professors (awards up to $50,000/12 months) who have been in the rank for less than seven years are eligible to apply. Applications due November 4, 2020.

Applying for a research grant is no small feat! There are a number of important administrative and compliance processes at UW that all researchers must follow to help make sure your grant submission goes smoothly and you know what’s needed for sound grant management once an award is made.

This session covers the processes and compliance requirements involved in submitted a research grant application, including i) roles and responsibilities of faculty, SoHE research administrators, and office of Research and Sponsored Programs (RSP) staff; ii) a walk-through of the grant submission process at UW (including  WISPER, budget review, coordination with RSP for submission, etc.); iii) key research policies and compliance requirements that all researchers need to know; iv) where to find resources online and who to contact in SoHE with questions related to applying for or managing a grant.

The target audience is SoHE faculty researchers at all levels. Non-faculty researchers and graduate students who conduct research at SoHE are welcome to attend.
This 60-minute session will be followed by 15-minutes of Q&A. Slides and other handouts will be provided to registrants a few days in advance.
Lead presenters are Sarah Marcotte, SoHE Preaward Research Administrator and Andrea Plassman, SoHE Postaward Research Administrator.
