Funding Opportunities for the week of May 11-15, 2020

The Spencer Foundation, which supports education research, has issued a Research Grants on Education: COVID-19 Related Special Grant Cycle, in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. Under the call, grants of up to $50,000 for projects up to three years will be awarded in support of education research projects that contribute to an understanding of the rapid shifts in education in this time of crisis and change. Proposals are due May 18, 2020.

The Social Science Research Council invites proposals for its Rapid Response Grants on COVID-19 and the Social Sciences. While essential public health and economic research in measuring and modeling COVID-19 and its effects is underway, the full range of the social sciences – its questions, analytical frameworks, and methods – needs to be drawn upon to understand the pandemic as a social phenomenon, and to inform responses based on knowledge of human interactions and institutions. Proposals may request up to $5,000 for projects up to 6 months. Proposals are due June 1, 2020.

The National Institutes of Health (NIH) offer numerous funding opportunities that may be of interest:
Research on Biopsychosocial Factors of Social Connectedness and Isolation on Health, Wellbeing, Illness, and Recovery (PAR-19-373 [R01, No Clinical Trial]; PAR-19-384 [R01, Basic Science Clinical Trial required]). Due dates are June 8, 2020 and March 17, 2021.
Research to Improve Native American Health (PAR-17-464 [R21]; PAR-17-496 [R01]). Standard NIH due dates apply.
Addressing Racial Disparities in Maternal Mortality and Morbidity (RFA-MD-20-008 [R01, Clinical Trial Optional]). Due date is May 29, 2020.

National Science Foundation’s Developmental Sciences (DS) supports basic research that increases our understanding of cognitive, linguistic, social, cultural, and biological processes related to human development across the lifespan. Research supported by this program will add to our knowledge of the underlying developmental processes that support social, cognitive, and behavioral functioning, thereby illuminating ways for individuals to live productive lives as members of society. Proposals are due July 15.

Training/Education

The OVCRGE Grant Writing Boot Camp for Social Scientists will run from July 2020 through mid-February 2021. The boot camp will provide structured guidance and mentoring for developing a proposal aimed for NIH. Proposals can originate in any discipline but should have a substantive component in the social sciences. The boot camp will meet approximately twice per month from mid-summer through mid-February 2021. Applications are due June 1.
