Sparks Honored with Community-University Partnership Award
SoHE Assistant Professor Shannon Sparks, PhD., was honored with a Community-University Partnership Award for her work with the Milwaukee Consortium for Hmong Health. The Consortium, founded in 2008, was created to increase capacity in Milwaukee to address cancer health disparities for Hmong women. The Consortium’s “Healthy Hmong Women” project developed a culturally-appropriate community health worker (CHW) program aimed to improve Milwaukee Hmong women’s cancer knowledge. These awards highlight exemplary partnerships that get to the heart of the Wisconsin Idea: community members and UW–Madison personnel working collaboratively to transform the community for the public good.
