Congratulations to Albert Burgess-Hull, Human Development and Family Studies graduate student, who was recently awarded a competitive Social Network and Health Scholars (SNHS) Training Fellowship at Duke University. The NICHD funded (R25) program is designed to help bridge the gap between social network research demand and training. As a SNHS Fellow, Albert will participate in an intensive week-long training program at Duke designed to cover multiple dimensions of network theory/methodology and health. In addition he will be matched with a DNAC mentor to work on an ongoing research project that examines the spread of marijuana-use in the social network.
Albert Completed his MS thesis on social networks and smoking cessation with HDFS professor Linda Roberts. His results will soon be submitted for publication. “Albert is passionate about statistics and very sophisticated in the area of quantitative methodology,” states Roberts. “This fellowship will allow him to gain skills in a new analytic technique, and further develop his independent research skills.”
The SNHS Training Program is sponsored by the Duke Network Analysis Center, whose purpose is to produce world-class network research that would be difficult to accomplish by investigators on their own. Their ideals include building a strong research community, developing investigators skills, and providing support and the tools necessary for innovative and ground-breaking research.
