Burkholder Inducted as UW Teaching Fellow

Congratulations to Kristy Burkholder, PhD, HDFS Faculty Associate, who was inducted into the UW-Madison Teaching Academy as a Teaching Fellow.  The Inductee Ceremony was held on April 8, 2019.

“It’s been an honor and a professional pleasure to have learned from and taught with Kristy over these recent several years,” states her nominator, Michael Maguire, CSCS Faculty Associate. “Her wealth of experience, her compassion for students, and the depth and breadth of her teaching capacity all represent the hallmarks of what we can hope for in teaching excellence here at SoHE and UW-Madison!”

Kristy co-taught SoHE’s inaugural “EcoYou” course, which introduces first-year students to the curriculum content areas of SoHE. She serves on the team of SoHE Faculty Associates focused on students’ career and leadership development and is on an advisory team focused on developing an innovative undergraduate Certificate program in the area of Design Strategy.  She was part of the group that attended a Summer 2018 “Teaching & Learning Studio” for a week at Stanford University’s “d.School” (Design School), known as a world-wide leader in Design Thinking.

“Testimonials to Kristy’s teaching excellence regularly come from students and colleagues,” explains Maguire.  “It is not unusual for Kristy to be recognized and complimented by other UW and School of Human Ecology stakeholders – including campus and SoHE administrators, campus program personnel – especially in Student Services – and even parents of her students.”
