UW officially launches its first fully online undergraduate degree with SoHE
This week, the University of Wisconsin–Madison officially announced the launch of its very first fully online undergraduate degree. The School of Human Ecology is home to the new offering, a B.S. in Personal Finance, designed with our Consumer Science department faculty and staff for people who have earned some college credits or an associate degree and want to complete their bachelor’s. “The School of Human Ecology is a natural place to launch this online degree, and we are proud to lead on this initiative,” says SoHE Dean Soyeon Shim. “UW–Madison Online builds on our offerings for people wherever they are in their educational journey, and in their life.” Read more in the university’s press release.
Kirkorian quoted in New York Times opinion
“Whenever I’m talking to parents about using technology, I’m always focused on what the goal is.” That’s Dr. Heather Kirkorian, SoHE’s Laura M. Secord Chair in Early Childhood Development and Faculty Director of the Child Development Lab, quoted in an op-ed by lead editor of NYT Parenting Jessica Grose, in which Grose examined the impact of location trackers for young children.

Dr. Cliff Robb, Associate Professor of Consumer Science, was interviewed by CBS 58’s Victor Jacobo about recommendations for everyday investors watching their retirement savings rollercoaster up and down in markets recently due to fears around the global spread of coronavirus.

The New Books Network podcast this week highlighted Jennifer Gaddis‘s book The Labor of Lunch: Why We Need Real Food and Real Jobs in American Public Schools. Gaddis is the Jane Rafferty Thiele Faculty Fellow and Assistant Professor in Civil Society and Community Studies.
