This post provides a few important updates this week that are relevant to SoHE researchers, staff, and students involved in research. We know this is a challenging time for everyone. The Research Core Team is here to support faculty, staff, and students working on research projects.

Resources and Information for Researchers
As a reminder, UW–Madison’s COVID-19 site at covid19.wisc.edu has ongoing updates on campus operations and information specific to researchers.
On March 25, the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Research and Graduate Education (OVCRGE) notified campus of the extension to the temporary suspension to human subjects research to May 15, 2020, to align with other campus guidance.
Research and Sponsored Programs (RSP) continues to update its website with new and emerging information related to COVID-19 impacts to UW research. Federal agencies and non-federal organizations are also regularly communicating guidance and requirements to the research community regarding management of proposals and awards, and those agency-specific updates are compiled in a searchable table on that RSP page.
Federal agencies and other research funders have released funding opportunities for researchers to study the impacts of COVID-19, whether through supplements to existing grants or through new projects. The research community is disseminating and sharing those opportunities as they become available. Several of these opportunities have been added to the current list of funding opportunities on SoHE’s own Research Support/Search Funding Opportunities webpage. Contact Sarah Marcotte if you would like assistance locating COVID-19-related funding opportunities for your research or outreach activities.
SoHE Research News
Research support for SoHE faculty continues, despite the challenges we’re all currently facing. The fall 2020 SoHE Course Release Incentive Funds have been awarded: congratulations to Assistant Professor Megan Bea (Consumer Science), Associate Professor Heather Kirkorian (Human Development and Family Studies), and Professor Julie Poehlmann-Tynan (Human Development and Family Studies)!
In addition, the 2019-20 cycle of the Research Centers Discretionary Research Funding awards is nearly complete. All Centers have or will soon complete their award decisions. We thank Dean Shim for this investment in SoHE research through this flexible mechanism. Also, a big thank you to each of the Centers Research Leads, their staff, and proposal reviewers for their engagement in this process.
