SoHE artists at MMoCA’s Wisconsin Triennial
Design studies professor and artist Marianne Fairbanks and recent MFA graduate Dakota Mace have been selected to participate in the prestigious Wisconsin Triennial show this fall at the Madison Museum of Contemporary Art. Brava Magazine quoted Fairbanks on the ideas that fuel her art and scholarship.
From research to rallies, SoHE lessons take hold
A recently declared Community and Nonprofit Leadership major, Crystal Yichen Zhao, spoke at last month’s Madison rally as part of the Global Climate Strike. SoHE associate dean and the Vaughan Bascom Professor in Human Ecology Dr. Connie Flanagan, who specializes in young people’s political identity formation and civic action, sat down with Crystal to discuss young people’s leadership on the issue. She was also interviewed by Sinclair Broadcast Group for a story that aired with numerous outlets, including KOMO News.

Speaking of exceptional art, SoHE professor Jennifer Angus was featured in the Tampa Bay Times as she opens her largest show ever in at the Museum of Fine Arts, St. Petersburg (Florida) this weekend, including a members-only preview Friday evening and a process talk Saturday afternoon. Jerry O’Brien on Von Maur’s second Wisconsin store
Jerry O’Brien, executive director of the Kohl’s Center for Retailing, was quoted earlier this week in the Wisconsin State-Journal on what he views as a positive addition to the West Towne Mall in Madison: Iowa-based department store Von Maur announced it will add a second Wisconsin store at the site of a previously shuttered department store at the west side shopping center.
School lunch shaming in radio spotlight
Assistant professor Jennifer Gaddis, author of the forthcoming The Labor of Lunch: Why We Need Real Food and Real Jobs in America’s Public Schools, joined WHYY’s Regional Roundup show to discuss the practice of “school lunch shaming” in the context of the broader systemic flaws she has studied in the U.S. public school lunch program.
